House Of Vintage LA | DTLA ArtWalk TrunkShow Featuring Jewelry By Wes Hatem

In the heart of Downtown Los Angeles, nowadays you can find almost anything especially delicious restaurants with the perfect atmosphere, historical breathtaking architecture, unpretentious bars, lounges you could stay all night in, upscale salons (that are still underground enough to make you feel you discovered gems) and of course couture? Yes, thats right... Bonafide VINTAGE. HIGH END. CURATED COUTURE! Courtesy OF Felicity Rathbone, Founder & Couture Curator of House Of Vintage LA. We are such fans of House of Vintage LA's designer garb including the five star treatment which Felicity showers to every client that enters. Weekends and special events like last weeks trunk show are always accompanied by flowing Proseco, lovely stylists and all around positivity. Felicity Rathbone is a Canadian transplant who had been living in Venice up until last year, when she decided moved to DTLA's booming cityscape, she opened her and every woman's dream store... and as most of us know when you follow your dreams the universe is there to back them up. Along with her adorable pup, Astrid, Rathbone has been seeing more traffic and HIGH END clientele that are singing her praises. LAiCREATIVES wanted to a "Rapid Fire" Q & A with Felicity Rathbone, in leu of this month's Artwalk as #HouseOfVintageLA had a special trunk show and 10% off sale and collaborating with local jewelry designer Wes Hatem.
HOVLA_WARRACK2 What made you did you decide to open a coutour vintage store in DTLA?
I saw a niche in an up and coming area. L.A. is famous for it's vintage clothing so I thought it would be a fun addition to the Historic Core.
How do you select the pieces in your store?
I select items based on wearability. Everything is handpicked individually and I like the idea of vintage being so timeless that it can look current and hip depending on how you style it.
HOVLA_1 What designers do you carry and who are your favorite?
Missoni, Diane von Furstenburg, Chanel, Pierre Cardin, Oscar de la Renta, Lanvin, Versace, Moschino, Courreges, Geoffrey Beene, Bill Blass and many more. I have a beautiful gold, chunky Givenchy necklace from the 70s that I adore and definitely Diane von Furstenburg for clothing.
HOVLA_LAI_212 You often get big named clientele that are just walk ins?
I've had several celebrities that shall go unnamed for privacy that have frequented the store and many fashionable downtowners. We are located close to FIDM after all.
Do you feel like curating the selection makes the boutique more elegant and friendly to enter, especially with your dog Astrid and treating them to a glass or two of Proseco? Is this something you feel is important for your clients?
I wanted to give the store a clean and classic look to emphasize the clothing. Many vintage stores cram their stores full of merchandise and I wanted to showcase the pieces. I also offer complimentary beverages to make shopping at House of Vintage L.A. a fun, moreore intimate experience. Like shopping in Carrie Bradshaw's closet.
What is your background in Fashion? Marketing?
I went to school for fashion merchandising and marketing in Toronto where I'm originally from. I've also styled and worked in editorial.
HOVLA_FEL How did you decide to team up with Wes Hatem for last Thursday’s trunk show Artwalk in DTLA?
Wes is a local designer who has his own clothing line. His designs have appeared on tv shows such as RuPauls Drag Race. His new line is custom, one-of-a-kind jewelry pieces that are very modern and fun.
How did you the two of you meet?
Spring St. Bar. Hahahahah! No I have known him for some time and have always admired his esthetic so I offered to host a trunk show highlighting his new line at the store. DTLA is a close knit community of artists and creative people and we all support each others ventures and projects.
Do you also “loan” or “rent” outfits for special events? And people / business use your store for shoots?
All the clothing is available for rental for events and for photoshoots. WE have also had some photoshoots in the store?
HOVLA_WARRACK1 How much fun are you having with House Of Vintage LA? Do you plan on opening up a 2nd location?
I LOVE my job!! I would like to open another location within the next few years, perhaps on the West Side.
