LosJoCos Gallery proudly presents “DIVINE WRITE” featuring new works by Typographer and Street Artist, Peter Greco. The opening reception was held Saturday October 1st and the exhibit continues through the Sunday, October 16. Gallery hours for the ongoing exhibit are Saturday and Sunday, October 8, 9 and 15, 16 from 2-7pm and by appointment. Please call 213-221-7744 to set weekday appointments if desired.
Peter Greco is considered of one of America’s most experienced practitioners in the art of traditionally inspired, typography and handcrafted lettering. His continuous exploration and passion has enabled him to reach beyond design into the realm of fine art.
On October 9th, Greco will discuss his background in typography, calligraphy and the mystic arts and give a live demonstration of his technique. Greco will discuss his inspiration for his counterpart, Gonza Spalato, his gravitation to the art of ancient hidden languages and the Toltec way of life, as well as offer a Q&A time for questions from attendees.
Greco’s signature Toltec murals have become a staple around the Los Angeles street art scene. His graphic design background and lengthy study of historical alphabets combine present day graffiti with tribal imagery, sacred geometry, glyphs, esoteric philosophy and occult arts. Words, symbols and abstract markings are utilized to generate curiosity, challenge perceptions and encourage the viewer to look deeper for hidden messages.
Within “DIVINE WRITE”, Greco exhibits for the first time a collection of the manuscript folios of the Renaissance Mystic, Gonza Spalato. Hidden, feared and forgotten for centuries, these pages reconstruct and illustrate the life and thought of this previously unknown figure. That which emerges is a legendary tale of peril and transformation expressed through symbolism, calligraphy and art. Beyond all conventional frames of reference, the content of this collection penetrates the heart of the mysteries of our being.
